Maple and Cherry Chessboard w/ Pearlescent Red Epoxy

This fully customizable solid wood and epoxy chess board is a great gift for any chess enthusiast, or even just as an eclectic decoration for your office, living room, etc. The chess board shown in the listing photos was constructed of hand selected premium black walnut and hard maple. I also chose a metallic turquoise epoxy to tie it together with some nice color. Everything is sanded and cut to ensure equal spacing and dimensions. In the end I apply an all natural food safe linseed oil based product to provide a very durable ultra smooth finish (the finish I use in all of my projects is made for dining tables and hardwood floors, so you know it can withstand wear and tear!). The total dimensions and square sizes are fully customize-able, as well as the epoxy color and wood types. Stay tuned for more color combinations as I make more, I will post more pictures!

The square size chosen for the listing pictures is 1.5″ x 1.5″. With the outside walnut trim the total dimensions come to 13″ x 13″ square. It is also 2″ thick and has a very solid weight to it. Lastly, I apply a soft felt underlayment on the bottom to provide non skid and give it a nice polished touch so as to not to scratch up the board or your playing surface!

I do offer the chess pieces shown as an add on if interested. I do not make them myself as a disclaimer though. I also offer an underneath storage option as well.  This can fit all playing pieces and have additional room left for other items.

You can also customize the square sizes and ultimate overall dimensions if you’d like thicker trim around the edges…or a smaller square size etc. Just message me for a custom quote. Otherwise, the default is 1.5″ squares and 13″ overall square.

* It should be noted that due to the nature of wood and stains that each piece will vary slightly in overall color than the samples shown. Also, some woods are softer and therefore soak up more stain than hard woods and this will also result in slight variations in each piece, but this is what makes each one unique!

* This item is made to order. That means when an order is placed, I will then hand select the wood to be used in the process. Making sure to use the most unique piece possible in terms of grain and knots. Then begins the cutting and sanding, followed by the staining. Sanding is critical when staining wood and this is where the majority of time is spent. Lastly, the protective top coat is added in 1 finished layer.
